What our Tyrian purple products are — and what they are not. Please read before purchasing.

⚠ Not a Food, Drug, or Cosmetic Product

Every product sold by Empyrex — pigment powder, dye kits, dried Murex glands, and dyed fabrics — is a textile dye and fine-art pigment intended for external use on fiber, fabric, and other non-food materials only. None of our products are intended for ingestion, consumption, or use as a food, food additive, drug, dietary supplement, or cosmetic.

What Empyrex Products Are For

Empyrex sells authentic Tyrian purple (6,6′-dibromoindigo) derived from Mediterranean Murex sea snails, hand-produced by master artisan Mohamed Ghassen Nouira in Tunisia using historical methods. Our products are made and marketed exclusively for the following uses:

Textile Dyeing: Coloring wool, silk, linen, and other natural fibers by artists, weavers, and textile conservators.
Tekhelet: Traditional dyeing of ritual threads (tzitzit) in accordance with religious practice — an application to fiber, never to the body or for consumption.
Fine Art & Painting: Use as a pigment by painters and conservators working in traditional and historical media.
Collection & Display: Acquisition by collectors, museums, and institutions as a specimen of historical and archaeological significance.
Research & Education: Study of the chemistry, history, and craft of Tyrian purple by researchers, students, and educators.

What Empyrex Products Are Not

Empyrex products are not manufactured, tested, labeled, or sold as food, food coloring, food additives, beverages, drugs, dietary supplements, or cosmetics. They have not been evaluated or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration or any equivalent authority for any such use.

⛔ Do Not Ingest or Apply to the Body

Do not eat, drink, or otherwise ingest any Empyrex product. Do not apply pigment, dried Murex glands, or dye-kit materials to skin, mucous membranes, or any part of the body, and do not use them in cooking, baking, or beverage preparation. These products are raw, unrefined, artisanal materials handled and packaged for craft and study use — not for consumption.

Handling & Precautions

Keep Away From Children & Pets: Store all pigments, dried glands, and dye materials out of reach of children and animals.
Craft Use Only: Use gloves and a well-ventilated workspace when handling raw pigment or preparing dye baths, as with any textile dye.
Not a Kit Ingredient: Dye kits are supplied for dyeing fiber and fabric only and do not include instructions or components for any food, cosmetic, or medicinal use.
Dispose of Responsibly: Dispose of unused dye baths and residues in accordance with local wastewater regulations.
